HOME PAGE FINGER PAINTING COLLAGES Homemade Colored Sand for Sand Art
Using Play Sand and Sidewalk Chalk
Materials Needed:
- Play Sand
- Any brand of side walk chalk
- A paper plate for each color sand you want to make
- Containers to put the sand in (ziplock bags work great)
Picture will go here Directions:
- Pour a small amount of sand onto a paper plate.
- Take one color stick of sidewalk chalk and "write" on the sand in a circular motion. (School age children love to do this step--pre schoolers do better just watching)
- A couple of times each minute--gently shake the plate to help mix the color into the sand.
- When you get the color sand you want--pour into container. Repeat this process until you have enough of each color for the project that is planned.
Variations:
You may also use salt instead of sidewalk chalk--it is a little cheaper, much easier to find--but has a tendency to clump if too much glue is used. Also there are many recipes out there that use powdered tempera paint instead of the chalk.
